State of the Union

ok, so i'm watching our president speak tonight...woohoo...zzzz...i mean, woohoo!  i think tradition is important, but isn't it a little silly that every time the prez gets done with some sort of stump speech for why he does what his adiministration does, that he gets a standing ovation?!?  i think it's wierd and trite...i bet there are people in the room that have no idea why they just stood up...and they only did it because the person next to them jabbed them in the side.

anyway, my wife was watching and she made a comment that cracked me up and i'm not even sure she realized she made the comment...but it got me laughing and i think you might agree...she said..."marriage..."  he's kind of like our president, right?

Day 13, 14, 15 - Psalm 51, 55 & 62

Vp019Psalm 51 - here is the theme verse:

"Create in me a pure heart, O God,
       and renew a steadfast spirit within me."

David is pleading with God to make him pure so that he can be in the sight of the LORD.

Father please forgive me for my junk/sin.  i need you more than anything in this world - please give me strength to overcome temptation and to not sin against you.  i love you LORD.

45037146Psalm 55 - David is asking God to protect him and do away the evil that is chasing/surrounding him.  i have never had to run for my life, but if i had to, this would be my prayer too.

FifteenPsalm 62 - money, property, stolen good...nothing is better than the love of God.  nothing can replace our relationship with our LORD.

LORD, please never let me forget Psalm 62.  i never want to chase money or prosperity or whatever in the name of happiness or in any name for that matter.  God, please be the center of my life.  amen.

Day 11 & 12 - Psalm 37 & 40

8174Psalm 37 - i believe this is the key verse of chapter 37:

"those the LORD blesses will inherit the land,
       but those he curses will be cut off."

the Lord delights in us - he love us - those who follow him, will be taken care of by him.  thank you God for your generosity in my life.  my wife, kids, family, friends, shelter, job, church - all from you.  thank you.

600pxi12_svg Psalm 40 - God hears our cry - that's all i need to know - thank you LORD.  amen.

day 9 & 10 - Psalm 27 and 34

381402855_7736eac4fa_3Psalm 27 - rejection. rejected. reject.  "do not reject me, or forsake me."  i want to be liked.  i enjoy it when i know people like me.  i can't imagine of our Heavenly Father didn't...if he chose to reject me.  my life would be void.  it would be meaningless.

please forgive me God for my sins.  thank you for saving me from myself.  i am a mess without you and i need you in my life to be whole.

Bowling_pins Psalm 34 - ok, my favorite psalm so far - so i just decided to cut and paste the whole thing!

1 [a] I will extol the LORD at all times;
       his praise will always be on my lips.

2 My soul will boast in the LORD;
       let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

3 Glorify the LORD with me;
       let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
       he delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant;
       their faces are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him;
       he saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
       and he delivers them.

8 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
       blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

9 Fear the LORD, you his saints,
       for those who fear him lack nothing.

10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
       but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

11 Come, my children, listen to me;
       I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12 Whoever of you loves life
       and desires to see many good days,

13 keep your tongue from evil
       and your lips from speaking lies.

14 Turn from evil and do good;
       seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous
       and his ears are attentive to their cry;

16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
       to cut off the memory of them from the earth.

17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them;
       he delivers them from all their troubles.

18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
       and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

19 A righteous man may have many troubles,
       but the LORD delivers him from them all;

20 he protects all his bones,
       not one of them will be broken.

21 Evil will slay the wicked;
       the foes of the righteous will be condemned.

22 The LORD redeems his servants;
       no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.

amen.

i love my friends

they crack me up!  my good friend pmart came over to my desk today and asked how to post a youtube video on his blog.  i proceded to show him, thinking i would be a good friend and help him out.  well, this is why he wanted to know.  i still like him regardless.

Day 7 & 8 - Psalm 24 & Pslam 25

Ei060505b_3Psalm 24 - God is in charge; there is nothing to fear:

"the earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it"

Father, please help me to fully trust you and have faith that you are in control.

8ball_0Psalm 25 - vs. 5 through vs. 9 is my favorite part of psalm 25.  i noticed these verses because David refers to God is his Savior.  this stood out to me because he does the same thing in psalm 24:5...except in 25 he refers to God as his Savior versus Savior someone else.  david basically walks us through his spiritual journey and need for God.  he also teaches about how God intructs us in his ways and leads the humble.

Lord, please help me to be humble and kneel before you as a sinner who needs you to lead me daily.  amen.

Day 6 - Psalm 23

Img_0248_2Psalm 23 - an oldie but a goodie.  oh wait, they're all old.  anyway, i'm not totally certain what makes this verse so popular - i mean, it's a great verse (as equally great as the whole Bible), but why has it become such a memorable verse throughout history?  is it because its a funeral verse?  a war verse - as men go into battle they cite this verse to themselves/God?  is it the shepherd analogy?

i think what causes it to stand out to me is the power of vs. 4 "even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i will fear no evil, for you are with me."  no matter how bad it gets, God is there...he will never leave us forsake us.

i love you, LORD.  my life without you would be worthless.  thank you for not leaving in my most desperate times.  amen.
